Coding Snack: MiniMe (aka MaxiMe)I needed this quickly so whipped up this AHK script to quickly minimize or maximize windows using right shift and control. I got really frustrated with the fact there is no windows shortcut to minimize the active window. If you're like me and have many window open then consider using minimIZE to minimize windows to a small desktop thumbnail (and out of your taskbar). In combination with that, this script can make windows management a lot less painless.

Issue trackers: do you use one? What's the best?I have been looking at www.fogbugz.com, and, while really cool, I don't feel like getting caught in large fees if my group ever gets any bigger.
I also don't like the fact that it doesn't integrate by default with my favorite dvcs, mercurial. These are features that don't exist in free alternatives, such as trac. But trac is open source, and it does integrate with mercurial. Another free one that integrates with mercurial is Redmine. A nice comparison: Comparison of issue tracking systems Thoughts? |

Audio format (batch) convert/transcode software?I have all my own CDs ripped to one .cue file and .wav file per album (those .wav's are going to be .flac some day, but haven't gotten around to that yet), which is just fine for foobar and other decent software players - but obviously my MP3 player wants mp3 files.
I've tried using foobar's convert tool, which does work - but it dumps all files in one folder, instead of splitting per album. So, does anybody know a decent (preferably free) transcoder/converter that supports cue files? |

WikidPad - an IDE for your thoughtsWikidPad is a Wiki-like notebook for storing your thoughts, ideas, todo lists, contacts, or anything else you can think of to write down. In fact, it's even good for writing reviews! This review was written in WikidPad and I hope this demonstrates some of the neat functionality that I think sets WikidPad apart as, what I describe as, a Thought Processor. One of the things that makes wikidPad different from other notepad type applications is the speed and ease with which you can cross link your information. Links in a wiki are created by typing in WikiWords using CamelCase; cross links can also be created by using keywords. WikidPad has a choice of database back ends to use and is also portable. |

File noteBack in 1999, Moonsoftware released a little app called FileNote. I used it so much it became second nature but when I moved up to a 64 bit OS it no longer worked. I emailed Moonsoftware about when it might be upgraded to 64 bit but received no response. It really is a neat little utility and when I ran across your site I thought it might be well to check since you guys seem to have talent bubbling out of your ears! From the Moonsoftware page: "FileNote is a little shell extension that allows you to add textual descriptions to your files. It adds one command to the shell context menu of a file object. This command lets you easily edit or create a text file that has the same name as the initial file, but with the extension TXT. For example, if you have a file, MyImage.jpg, you right-click on that file and choose the FileNote command from the context menu. A new text file called MyImage.txt is created and Notepad is opened to edit that text file. If a text file with that name already exists, it will be opened for viewing/editing. Does anyone have any ideas what could be done to make it work on a 54 bit OS? Click here to read about and download the coding snack utilities implemented.. |
