Find and Run Robot Opinions on FileForum
It [Find and Run Robot] is the most feature-complete and most advanced launcher out there! It simply rocks! I love it, and even I use only a minor amount of features and plugins it has (because it requires someone to remember the syntax of the commands-plugins) it greatly simplifies computer usage..

Comic Strip Generator (and March Caption Contest Announcement!)

I was doing a little research on what is available in the way of tools to create your own web comics, easily. I found a great site that was sort of along the lines of what I was thinking of.

Strip Generator lets you create your own comic strips with drag & drop ease, with lots of characters, props, creatures, shapes, talk & think balloons, etc.

It's a lot of fun to play with.

And now for the contest...

While playing around with some of the stuff there, I saw a few familiar things that reminded me of this site and created this little single frame comic:

All you have to do is fill in the talk/think bubbles with the conversation that took place between mouser & cody, during this little visit.

Mouser will be giving away a prize of a mug to the winner...with the winner's captioned image printed on it! (how cool is that?!)

Deadline to submit your captioned image is March 21, 2008.

Good luck! I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.  :D

Scanahand RC1 Released

If you've always wanted to create a font based on your own handwriting, do give Scanahand a try.

ScanahandOverview700x544.gif

Scanahand allows you to generate a font without the need to know all of the technical details involved. All you need is a printer, a scanner, and a black marker or felt-tipped pen. It is also possible to use Scanahand without using a printer and scanner, but then you'll have to draw characters through image processing software. During the 30-day trial period, Scanahand runs in reduced functionality mode. Basically this means you can generate and see your font, but you won't be able to save/install it.

i think i came across this link on digg.com:

http://www.aqua-soft...owthread.php?t=17372

looks to me like the best desklet icon thingy program there is - or if it isn't now, it soon will be.

for those of you who like a pure clean desktop then you aren't going to be too impressed but i hope you can see the potential this little program offers.

AndreasV, has developed a fantastic program - and he accepts donations for all his hard work.

i've not read the complete post on the aqua-soft forum as i've been playing around with 'Avedesk' as you'll see from the screengrab below...

Flash Game of the Week: Traveler IQ Challenge

SNAG-0334.png
How well do you know the world you live in? Can you pinpoint on a map where various cities are? How close do you think you can guess to where they actually are?

Very simple but nicely done and fun game, educational too.

Greetings! Darwin here with another installment of the DC newsletter. I'd like to start with congratulations to DC member yksyks and a big welcome to his NEWBORN SON Nathaniel, who was dropped down his parents' chimney at about 2:50 am today (Prague time) by Cody, in a stork suit.  Other than our best wishes, all we can say is sign him up at the forum!

We've enjoyed another busy period "on the boards" and will be pointing out some highlights below.

WordFlashReader: Open Source (Free) Utility to Help You Read Faster

2007-04-02_063104-medium2.png
This looks like a very interesting project.  Make sure to check out the short review at freewaregenius, which is helpful as always, and where i saw this mentioned first.

Want an efficient way to do on-screen reading of web-pages, email, and other electronic texts? Try WordFlashReader -- its a Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) program that makes on-screen reading easy. Its free, open-source, and works on both Windows and Linux. Try it out!

This program works best with text files and html files, but can open pdf files as well. WordFlashReader works by flashing each word of the text or book sequentially on the screen (pausing for punctuation). Not only is this way of reading off of a computer screen less straining on the eyes than the normal method, but also after a little practice you may discover that you can read at multiple times the speed you normally do.
