I found Process Tamer through Google because I was tired of Dropbox eating 50% CPU at startup.
Dropbox works great when you only have a few GB of stuff and only make small changes. But when you are routinely making thousands of changes to a terabyte, it slows down considerably. Anyhoo neat software from you guys and thanks.

How to reduce pagefile usage?

blog clipart
Is there a way to to reduce pagefile usage?
Lately, with only a few apps running (I have 1 gig of ram) I hit the limits and see a general slowdown.

I spend quite a lot of time checking the process manager :(

Right now, I'm not running that many apps, and I'm about 1 Gb of PF usage (third tab in process manager).

Any idea why?

Why do so many micropayment systems fail?

SNAG-0013.png
Four years ago, I wrote a piece called Fame vs Fortune: Micropayments and Free Content. The piece was sparked by the founding of a company called BitPass and its adoption by the comic artist Scott McCloud (author of the seminal Understanding Comics, among other things.) McCloud created a graphic work called “The Right Number”, which you had to buy using BitPass.

It didn’t work. BitPass went out of business in January of this year. I didn’t write about it at the time because its failure was a foregone conclusion. This isn’t just retrospective certainty, either..

Make sure you read the DC article which talks about microdonations: https://www.donation...icles/One/index.html

Seadragon:AWESOME photo viewing & Photosynth:AWESOME community photo processing

This video blew my mind! I actually think Seadragon looks more useful, but Photosynth is just amazing!

Read about this in a magazine Linux Format, it currently only aims for XP support but is talking about Linux and OS X versions. See the site for Falling Leaf System a company set by the developer.

teracopy: copy your files faster

teracopy.png
Copy your files faster and easier

TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, also providing you with a lot of features:

Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives.

Pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click.

Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer.

Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files.

Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.
