Process Tamer Opinions on SnapFiles
Bit of a fraggle having to renew freeware license every six months (or make a financial donation) but well worth the effort.. The configuration menu / interface may prove a bit daunting to anyone not computer literate but the program chugs along quite happily in its 'as supplied' mode - so no real worries there. Do I like it? Yes, very much and have no hesitation in highly recommending it... Well I must admit I was sceptically about this one. Heh! it works like a charm... Wow. This is a nice little utility. It works as advertised. Very, very handy; this is what freeware is all about. In addition it is very stable. One of the problems with freeware is that they can be unstable and rough around the edges--this program is neither... This is just the little program I have been searching for. It does exactly what it was developed to do.. A must have for anyone who wants to speed up their system at crucial times.

Warning about a new software company scamming people

blog clipart
Just wanted to let everyone know about a new company that is preying on novice computer users to get them to buy a one year membership to download free software.  This company has 27+ domains and is relying on Google Ads and I'm sure other sponsored ad sources to get there pages above developers pages.  I was tipped off when doing a search for Irfanview and with a little research I found a lot of information about the company.

Read about them:

Digg the Story to spread the word:

This kinda of stuff bothers me so much as it makes people distrust the internet and small honest companies.

Flash game of the day: Sea of Fire

Here's an interesting flash game. It's a real time strategy (RTS), like Warcraft or Command and Conquer. Of course simplied for flash, but still very addicting. I've wasted many hours finishing both campaigns. :)

DRAM Buyer's Guide  From ExtremeTech

Screenshot - 5_23_2007 , 12_50_35 PM_thumb.png
Another nice mini-article from ExtremeTech on buying memory (DDR2 or the new DDR3).  If you're anything like me you are completely mystified by all these different brands and kinds of memory chips, with all their different timings, and vast differences in price..

If anyone knows any other similar good articles on buying memory, please post as a reply.

As PC manufacturers ramp up their system offerings with DDR3 support, most of the DDR3 volume initially will go into those. We don't anticipate a rush to buy motherboards that support DDR3, but this is a good time to discuss memory and to help you plan future upgrades.

For the moment, DDR2 is still the king of the hill in memory. Sometimes, though, the sheer number of flavors of DDR2 is confusing. On top of that, there has been some variance from the JEDEC spec for memory. For example, some high-performance memory is rated at specs beyond any official JEDEC rating, and to hit those high specs, you also need to increase voltage beyond the standard. We've seen users buy memory rated at DDR2-1066, for example, who are surprised when they boot their system and find out that it's only running at DDR-667 speeds.

MusicIP - Music Player and Playlist Mixer

musicip.png
Seems like a mix between a good media player, last.fm and Picard music matching.
Instead of regular playlists, it can create a playlist based on one song, then you can select whether you want to hear "more like this" or "less like this". Also compares song analysis with an online database so you can select 'a mix' on mood etc.
