He replaced our old pjirc java-based web interface to our chat channel on efnet with a much snappier one based on cgi::irc. You don't need any special software to use this -- it runs completely from the server and your normal browser. You can see a screenshot below. To enter the chat room, just click the "CHAT!" button at the top of any forum page. You'll then be able to (text) chat live with the rest of the donationcoder gang 24 hous a day, 7 days a week. Liquid Resize (free utility) for content-aware photo resizingRyan at cybernetnews.com has a nice review (with screencast) up today about a free program called Liquid Resize, which basically implements the cool resizing effect that everyone got so disproportionately excited about a few weeks ago. It is cool though, and could be useful. Just three weeks ago we got a glimpse of what an implemented version of such a technology could actually do, and as expected, applications and plugins are popping up all over that make use of the technology. This article will focus on one free application called Liquid Resize that has made huge progress over the last few weeks. Below we’ll highlight some of the features, and you can watch a video we put together on how to use the program. cybernetnews review: http://cybernetnews....id-resize/#more-7376 Liquid Resize page: http://www.thegedanken.com/retarget/ |

Locking the screen with limited rights and universal password?Hi all.
I'm having some problems at college. As for the background: My college is astoundingly stupid, in that there are per-computer logon accounts, instead of per-user logon accounts. Leaving out the security risks and plethora of other negative points, the accounts, while unique for each machine all use the same password. The following problem has got me beat: how can i lock my screen. I have done some googling, but no glory. What I'm thinking is, if i were to install a low level mouse and keyboard hook, could i just eat all the keyboard and mouse messages until the user took an action to disable them (type a password etc)? I realise that ctrl+alt+delete cannot be caught (short of replacing the keyboard driver), but if the user cannot use the mouse or other keyboard keys, invoking the task manager/windows security panel dosnt help them a lot. As a bonus perhaps i could use ogl or whatever to black the screen (keeping it on top of the task manager/preventing task manager from minimizing it might be a problem). Anyway, let me know your thoughts/problems/criticism, and who knows one day my college computer will be safe from those nasty little peers of mine. |

Put That Old Computer To Good UseUnless you are forced to rely on it as your main PC, you may be tempted to throw an older computer away, thinking it is useless and obsolete. But don't make that mistake! Over on Daily Cup of Tech is a great article about twelve useful things you can do with an older PC, that you may be thinking of permanently retiring. All kinds of things from a firewall/router to a file server to a bittorrent box. So head on over and get some ideas and don't put the snail on the curb just yet. It still has plenty of life left in it. http://www.dailycupo...omputer-to-good-use/ |
