For a variety of reasons, I’m looking for a Cloud Storage Service.  At one time I was sure I would need two to satisfy my needs, as I need a service that syncs a local folder (preferably several) across machines.  I also need a online storage space for offsite backups- the ability to access it by WebDav is also a nice to have feature, so I can use my own backup software if I want.

Dell knowingly shipped millions of defective computers?

Screenshot - 7_2_2010 , 1_46_02 AM_thumb.png
This is not cool -- looks like we are talking about millions of pcs that were defective.

Documents recently unsealed in a three-year-old lawsuit against Dell show that the company’s employees were actually aware that the computers were likely to break. Still, the employees tried to play down the problem to customers and allowed customers to rely on trouble-prone machines, putting their businesses at risk. Even the firm defending Dell in the lawsuit was affected when Dell balked at fixing 1,000 suspect computers, according to e-mail messages revealed in the dispute.

Firefox Extensions: Your favorite or most useful - COLT - copy urls

screen_07012010_001.png

CoLT :: Add-ons for Firefox

https://addons.mozil...S/firefox/addon/1812

CoLT makes it easy to copy either a hyperlink's text or both the link and the link's text (in a format you specify). Two handy context-menu items make this possible, and don't add clutter; the items are only visible when right-clicking a link!
-Description from the page "CoLT :: Add-ons for Firefox"

You can add your own customizable copying of link text from it as seen in the screenshot from the options dialog above. I think it is useful for posting to forums and other sites.

For copy page title and location right click anywhere on the page that is not a link then go down to the sub menu for CoLT and you can select how you want the page link formatted you are currently viewing.

FARK creator doesn't believe in the wisdom of crowds

Screenshot - 30_06_2010 , 23_58_39_thumb.jpg
It's pretty telling when the founder of one of the pioneers of news aggregation says the model doesn't work at all. Perhaps that's why FARK has an editorial team that promotes links to the frontpage, while the rest remain in the back.

http://politics.slas...the-Wisdom-of-Crowds

Of course, the statement has to be taken with a grain of salt, as he's talking about comments, which are personal opinions on a matter, not a combined effort of a group of people in order to reach a single answer. Plus, this is FARK we're talking about.

KatMouse Utility

screen1.gif
I know there's a few people here who use KatMouse:

Purpose
The prime purpose of the KatMouse utility is to enhance the functionality of mice with a scroll wheel, offering 'universal' scrolling: moving the mouse wheel will scroll the window directly beneath the mouse cursor (not the one with the keyboard focus, which is default on Windows OSes). This is a major increase in the usefulness of the mouse wheel.

Diagnosis: Email Apnea?

Screenshot - 6_27_2010 , 4_38_45 AM.png
I noticed this about myself a few months ago when I was trying to figure out why I get so sleepy when doing certain tasks on the computer. Now, rather than getting up and crawling into bed for a nap, I make a special effort to breathe more when doing them to avoid the problem.

I've just opened my email and there's nothing out of the ordinary there. It's the usual daily flood of schedule, project, travel, information, and junk mail. Then I notice. I'm holding my breath.

As the email spills onto my screen, as my mind races with thoughts of what I'll answer first, what can wait, who I should call, what should have been done two days ago; I've stopped the steady breathing I was doing only moments earlier in a morning meditation and now, I'm holding my breath.

And here's the deal: You're probably holding your breath, too.

I wanted to know -- how widespread is email apnea*? I observed others on computers and BlackBerries: in their offices, their homes, at cafes. The vast majority of people held their breath, or breathed very shallowly, especially when responding to email. I watched people on cell phones, talking and walking, and noticed that most were mouth-breathing and hyperventilating. Consider also, that for many, posture while seated at a computer can contribute to restricted breathing.

Does it matter? How was holding my breath affecting me?

*Email apnea - a temporary absence or suspension of breathing, or shallow breathing, while doing email
