The Forum Seals the Deal
I have been trying out your Find & Run Robot and I am liking it. As a former user of Type & Run, I prefer the added utilty you have in F&RR. I went back to your site and wanted to check out some more offerings. Found your forum and downloaded a great little script for AutoHotKey (capshift.ahk) and though it was great. Decided to join then & there. I will be checking out your other utilities. I like what you have so far and like your attitude.

Why Blurring Sensitive Information is a Bad Choice for Hiding It

Screenshot - 1_7_2007 , 7_12_47 PM_thumb.png
Here's an interesting post about how blurred-out information can be recovered

Undoubtedly you have all seen photographs of people on TV and online who have been blurred to hide faces.

For the most part this is all fine with peoples' faces as there isn't a convenient way to reverse the blur back into a photo so detailed that you can recognise the photo. So that's good if that is what you intended. However, many people also resort to blurring sensitive numbers and text. I'll illustrate why that is a BAD idea.

Suppose someone posted a photo of their check or credit card online for whatever awful reason (proving to Digg that I earned a million dollars, showing something funny about a check, comparing the size of something to a credit card, etc.), blurring out the image with the far-too-common mosaic effect to hide the numbers...

Just cancel the @&@$(!#*! Account!

128206-2502p119-1b.jpg
It's hard to find a Web service that doesn't offer a free trial. But just try canceling. We did, and the results weren't always pretty.

It took me less than 5 minutes to sign up for a NetZero dial-up Internet account. But after canceling that account, I spent a week trying in vain to reverse a charge that the service levied after my cancellation request.

I had to call NetZero a total of five times, holding for several minutes and then enduring long and fruitless conversations with company agents every time I called. According to the NetZero representatives that I spoke to, I needed to talk to a supervisor to arrange a credit, but none was ever available when I called. In the end, I gave up and let NetZero keep the money.

To evaluate how difficult canceling an online service can be, I signed up for and then canceled 32 accounts, each at a different site. About a third of the services in my sample made the seemingly simple goal of canceling very hard to achieve (see the "Big Hassle" entries in "Want to Cancel That Service?").

Not all of my experiences were negative. Services such as a monthly New York Times TimesSelect online subscription and a monthly Consumer Reports Online account took only minutes to cancel and without lingering strings. But some others made me feel as though I'd joined the Sopranos' family business: Once I signed up, there was no quitting!

LS - File List Generator (for Windows)

This tool collects the information about files and sub-folders under the specified folder or drive and generates the list in your preferred format.  You can individually specify your desired information types to include in the list. You can even customize the listing order and sorting priorities. The output format of the list can be chosen from txt, html, and csv (Excel's primitive file format).

This tool can collect the following information items: path, folder name, file name, extension, file size, save date. Then, the tool:
* Generates the list using only the items you select,
* Allows you to customize the listing order of the selected items,
* Sorts (rising/falling/no sort) multiple items while generating the list,
* Allows you to specify the file size unit from no units, bytes, KB, MB, GB,
* Allows you to specify the delimiter from space, tab, comma, slash, and no delimiter,
* Supports drag & drop operations when you specify the location of a folder,
* Includes an Abort button to stop the operation when a folder is too big or a machine is too slow.
