Sharing the Software Discounts
I liked the idea of your site so, if I  can save some money with the code for BBFlashback the least I can do is plough a bit of it back..

Microsoft Log Parser

Image-0025.png
I rolled upon this today and tucked it away for a rainy day. It looks like it could be an easy way to add some powerful log creation and parsing capabilities to Windows apps.

Log parser is a powerful, versatile tool that provides universal query access to text-based data such as log files, XML files and CSV files, as well as key data sources on the Windows® operating system such as the Event Log, the Registry, the file system, and Active Directory®.  You tell Log Parser what information you need and how you want it processed. The results of your query can be custom-formatted in text based output, or they can be persisted to more specialty targets like SQL, SYSLOG, or a chart.  Most software is designed to accomplish a limited number of specific tasks. Log Parser is different... the number of ways it can be used is limited only by the needs and imagination of the user.  The world is your database with Log Parser.

From the makers of CCleaner... Recuva Beta 1

rscreen2.png
Since the inception and great success of CCleaner, the developers of this piece of software founded a small company, Piriform, to take advantage of the success of its first application, and the development of new tools. Well, here's the first one.

Recuva in words of its developers:

Recuva (pronounced "recover") is a freeware utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Windows Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

Lazy guy as I am (and curiously "PrintScreen" is not working...) I can't link any image, but in its web page you can find some shots. It's very much like CCleaner visual style, which, in my opinion, is a good thing.

Looking for Affordable Icon Editor and Manager Tool?

blog clipart
For some time I've been looking for an icon editor & manager. I've found many, but none that was both cheap and good. Of course I've found some very fine apps, but they were too expensive for me; $30 for an editor, and $40 - 60 for the combination, editor and manager.

Do you know of any fine icon editor & manager, reasonably priced (or free)?

IDEA: to "Shred" a file already in Recycle Bin?

blog clipart
Often times I look in my Windows XP Recycle Bin and see something I probably should have shredded rather than merely deleted.

If I'm not really (really) careful about what I'm doing, I'll "Restore" that sensitive file to some unknown place, intending to properly shred the darn thing. Drat!  Uh,... What was that filename again?  And where is it now?

weeks (or months) later... Damn!  There's that super-sensitive file I wanted to shred!  (heart attack) I hope nobody else saw it.

Sure would be handy if I could just shred that file directly from the recycle bin somehow.  Solutions?

Screenshot - 19_01_2007 , 1_17_09 PM.png
Note: Firefox 3 (Gran Paradiso) alpha 1 is being made available for testing purposes only.

From Mozilla:

Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is an early developer milestone for the next major version of Firefox that is being built on top of the next generation of Mozilla's layout engine, Gecko 1.9. Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is being made available for testing purposes only, and is intended for web application developers and our testing community. Current users of Mozilla Firefox should not use Gran Paradiso Alpha 1.

Changes in this Development Milestone
Gecko 1.9 Alpha 1 introduces several new features which can be tested by using Gran Paradiso Alpha 1:
    * Cairo is now being used as the default graphics library, affecting all graphic and text rendering
    * Cocoa Widgets are now used in OS X builds
    * An updated threading model
    * Changes to how DOM events are dispatched (see bug 234455)
    * Changes to how <object> elements are loaded (see bug 1156)
    * Changes to how web pages are painted
    * New SVG elements and filters, and improved SVG specification compliance
