Public Domain Image Sources

Here's a place where you can obtain images for your projects.

There are a number of sources of public domain images on the Web.

The presence of a resource on this list does not guarantee that all or any of the images in it are in the public domain. You are still responsible for checking the copyright status of images before you submit them to Wikipedia...

# http://lcweb2.loc.go...ammem/ammemhome.html Library of Congress American Memory site (Check copyright information for the separate items before deciding to use them!)
# http://teachpol.tcnj.edu/amer_pol_hist/ - public domain images of American Political History
# http://www.exclassic.../newgate/ngillus.htm Images from The Newgate Calendar. Mostly crimes and criminals from the 18th century. Also other works at http://www.exclassics.com
# http://fromoldbooks.org/ Collection images scanned from various old books that are now in the public domain. Searchable. Used to be at http://www.holoweb.n...m/pictures/oldbooks/
# http://www.john-leech-archive.org.uk/ John Leech sketch archives 1841 until 1864 from Punch magazine The page states they are long out of copyright and that they are believed to be public domain...

Alternative way to play music - Wonderful!

By editing together short clips of uncoordinated instrument playing, an amazing score can be produced:

Best example I've seen of this kind of thing so far.

The lego car factory - neatest thing EVER

It’s awesome and completely automatic Lego Mindstorms creation. The user selects the colors for the cabin and the machine selects the material, assembles and then attaches a chasis with the wheels. Impressive.

Dexpot: The best virtual desktop manager around? (free)

Screenshot-07_01_20,12_25_54_thumb.png
What can you ask of a desktop manager?

First.. That it works! This excludes most of windows virtual desktop managers. The windows vdm powertoy sucks, it has trouble with almost every window i can think of. Others can't completelly hide windows, others don't have custumizable hotkeys, well.. Most of them lack important features.

But that's not the case with Dexpot.

There's no feature you can't find, nothing you can't custumize and... It simply works! It even has that exposee thing that mac's OSX has, minimize to tray, rollup, always on top, change window transparency, etc, etc, etc!

EarthWatcher: to know where the sun is shining now, look at your desktop! (free)

ewscr0.jpg
Through snapfiles, i just found EarthWatcher.

This is a program that allows you to have real time images of the earth, as your wallpaper.

EarthWatcher uses two satellite images to create a map of the Earth on your desktop, that displays the areas of the globe where the sun is shining. You can set the interval to update the image, have it display the sun at zenith, save the image to a file and more. Makes a nice, dynamic wallpaper.
