FirstDefense-ISR: Member Mini-ReviewThe ISR in FirstDefense-ISR stands for Instant System Recovery, and that is what this program promises. Let me tell you, it delivers in an astounding way. While at first glance, it may appear that this program is little more than a disk imaging program a la Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost, it is a completely different concept. While the program does provide peace of mind that you can recover from an application gone bad, virus infection, or just plain user error, it does it so quickly that you may find yourself inviting disaster just for the chance to fix it as fast as it takes to punch the reset button on your PC (I am not, of course, suggesting that you infect yourself with a virus or abandon safe hex, but if that kind of thing is your idea of a good time, ISR can and will protect you from most mishaps. Please see my "Needs Improvement" section below).

Windows Vista Ultimate ... Worth Upgrading? ... CNET say no.Interesting article and video intro from CNET at
http://reviews.cnet....603.html?tag=nl.e501 I have to say what they conclude seems pretty much like common sense to me - Vista isn't finished and lots of functions won't work properly until SP1 is released for it late 2007. Add to that there seems to be little added over Windows XP other than DX10 and a surface gloss. Given the potential performance hit on existing hardware (or the cost of upgrading hardware) is it worth upgrading? Personally I agree with CNET and I won't be any time soon. What do you think? |

Cormorant: Flock's Latest IncarnationHere is a nice look at the upcoming release of Flock's latest web browse, Cormorant: Following along with the bird theme, Flock has announced that their code name for the Cardinal successor (Cardinal is the current 0.7.x release) is Cormorant, a medium-to-large seabird. Originally, the next big release was supposed to be Danphe, however they’ve taken a step back to evaluate where they currently are, and where they’d like to be. They feel they have more work to do on Danphe, so they’ve decided upon an ”in-between” release which will be Cormorant. Right now, they’ve got a pre-release/preview available for download. Ryan and I spent the last hour checking it out and taking a bunch of screenshots… so.. here is our mini review (don’t forget that you can click the screenshots to view a larger image). http://tech.cybernet...lease-before-danphe/ |
