Process Tamer Has Fans, Part Three
Ever have a program try to take over? Well i finally found the answer it's called Process Tamer it's a small program that sit's in the system tray when it sees a process that is overloading your cpu, it reduces the priority of that process temporarily, until its cpu usage returns to a reasonable level. After 3 week's of testing it has allmost completly put a stop to what i call system hanger's, the program's that will suddenly hog 100% resource's and hang the system. Best of all this is FREE the one word you will find here alot. I give it a 5 out of 5.

Lego Digital Designer

legos!.jpg
If you love Legos, but hate stepping on them in the middle of the night, you need Lego Digital Designer.

http://ldd.lego.com

Think of it as a CAD system for Lego freaks.  It comes complete with a catalog of every brick they make, in all possible colors.  Build the model of your dreams, and it'll even print out a parts list so you can build it in real life.  Or, use their online ordering wizard and have everything you need shipped straight to you.

The whole thing is free, unless you decide to jump online and buy enough bricks to recreate key scenes from The Matrix trilogy.

The new version adds Mindstorm support and a cleaner interface, but I can't vouch for that personally.  My little girl has been using the program since it first came out and actually prefers the virtual legos to her real bricks.

Which is great, since turning off the computer is soooo much easier than picking up the floor.

Product Key Explorer

product_key_explorer.jpg
Product Key Explorer scans your computer and locates activation keys, serial numbers, and registration information for software you've installed.

http://www.nsauditor...duct_key_finder.html

Once it populates its list (from a database of over 200 common applications) you can view, recover, or backup your keys.  Perfect for migrating to a new computer, or recovering from a crash.  It's not free ($24 USD) but there's a 15 day free trial if you're curious.

Other product-specific solutions exist, many of them free, but I've never seen a single comprehensive solution like this before.  If anyone tries Product Key Explorer out, please post your experience -- I'm very curious.

Ed Bott says if you are planning on buying an LCD monitor, you need to check out this thread at the AnandTech forum, and i can see why.  Looks like a ton of up-to-date details, information about what to look for, and a nice concise recommendation section for people who don't have 300 hours to analyze charts.  Good stuff.

11 Top New Web Apps of 2007 - from lifehack.org

Screenshot - 12_21_2007 , 7_39_23 PM_thumb_thumb_thumb.png
Over at lifehack.org, they've posted their 11 favorite *new* web apps of 2007:

What excites me is that these represent only the first, or in some cases the second, step for web-based applications.  Any of these apps will help you be more productive, but imagine them integrated and refined 5 years from now — using Jott to call Sandy to schedule a payment in Mint and placing a todo in Todoist telling you to call in three days to make sure the payment is received. Maybe it won’t be these apps or these companies, but if not, the ones that follow will have the creators of the apps above to thank for blazing the trail.

Current IE8 build renders the ACID2 Test correctly

blog clipart
The most current build of IE8 running in standards mode now correctly renders the Acid2 browser test.

Acid2 is a test that determines how well a browser works with several different web standards.  Successfully rendering Acid2 is an important landmark for IE8, as it highlights the interoperability, standards compliance and backwards compatibility that we're committed to for this release.  We are also announcing that IE8 Beta 1 will be released in the first half of 2008.  This is the first significant disclosure of IE8 features and standards support and we expect broad interest.  A Channel 9 video interview will provide further detail on this announcement.

As per usual, we will continue to collect designer and developer feedback to determine additional milestone timelines further down the line.
New information for developers:  One of the goals of IE8 is to support the right set of standards with excellent implementation and without breaking the existing web.  Last week, IE8 reached a core milestone:  IE8 in standard mode now correctly renders the “Acid2 Browser Test”.  Acid2 is a test that determines how well a browser works with several different web standards.
