Batchrun

batchrun41.png
in relation to questions posed in this thread: Is it possible to start a program when you first start LanchBar Commander?.

i'd like to suggest Batchrun

Batchrun will let you create batch files using a graphical interface. In the good old days of DOS .bat files took care of this task. They still do, but they're not exactly user friendly. With Batchrun .brs batch files you can launch any number of programs or dialup connections with just a simple click. You can control the starting process with many properties like priority or run mode and control their behavior a tad. You can even do more than starting programs with the built-in file management functions like Copy, Rename, Makedir, Delete and End Process. Batchrun batch files can be launched from Explorer or placed in StartUp folder or on the Desktop.

A Dog Goes Blind: It's nighttime always now. Huh. How about that.

jdt_virginiadiagram-thumb-450x394-24009.jpg
Neat little essay about someone whose dog goes blind.

So, when she went blind, I did end up going a bit nuts. She's a profoundly sweet-natured and smart dog, and seeing her struggle, without benefit of understanding why, was wrenching...

In far less time than you'd ever guess, she adapted-- far, far better than I ever realized would be possible. I made the usual mistake of anthropomorphizing the animal I live with. Her brain just works differently than ours do: I'm told when they go blind, dogs just think something along the lines of "It's nighttime always now. Huh. How about that." and they get on with it.

Newsletter for July 27th, 2009 - Codename "30 Days of Screencasts"

blog clipart
1. Newsletter Editorial

...

Lastly, and falling into the "what have i gotten myself into" category, is this.. I have promissed to make 30 screencast demo videos in the month of August, highlighting various features of my programs.  For you mathematicians, that's one video per day, minus 1 as a protest against the idea that months have different numbers of days in them.  I'm also trying to encourage other coders on the site to make and post screencasts of their software, but I doubt any will be as stupid as me and try to do one per day.  I hope you'll at least stop by and see if I manage to stick with it the entire month without succumbing to exhaustion.  Wish me luck and help me spread the word please! They should serve as a good way to learn about the programs and various unusual features.

Program Whose Time Has Come: virtual folders, collections, file baskets...

blog clipart
What would be the one program you would like to have most that is already possible but doesn't quite seem to exist yet? A Program Whose Time Has Come? For me, it would be a powerful sidekick to file managers: a program to manage virtual folders, a.k.a file collections, a.k.a file baskets/organizers... Hope someone comes up with a catchier name!

The time when the simple folder hierarchy ceased to suffice is long gone, isn't it? I've seen plenty of requests for such functionality on various forums, but strangely no real takers yet. I'll describe my experience with the existing solutions, pretty immature all, but first, here's what the program would do:

A virtual folder is a folder that doesn't exist physically on disk. It is merely a name for a collection of files selected by the user for whatever purpose or gathered automatically according to some criteria. The "whatever" is pretty darn big - I come up with new potential uses for such a program every day. Here are the three main uses of file collections I can see. (Please add others if my three don't exhaust the range of possibilities). Each of these uses requires slightly different behaviors, but it seems possible to accommodate them all in a single application.
