Dimensions 2 Folders: Sort images into folders based on resolutionI'd like to see an option to sort out just one specific resolution, or a list of specified resolutions, so that I can run the program on my bulk image downloads folder and pull out all the images that are wallpaper sized, without worrying about having hundreds of extraneous folders created that then get in the way of other sorting (exactly 400 folders created this batch, amusingly). Dimensions 2 Folders has been updated to v1.0.3: Webpage | Download |

All Wordy and Junk: A brand new multi-author blogLet's face it, anyone that has ever tried to maintain a blog all by themselves knows, blogging is tough. Having to come up with something to write about on a regular basis isn't the easiest task. Not to mention all the other things that go along with blogging, such as promoting it and stuff. This is why so many writers just give up and abandon their blogs. All Wordy and Junk was an idea conceived on Friendfeed. A group decided to band together to make a single multi-author blog. Figuring that the more writers you have, the less pressure you have to come up with something to write, lets the authors relax and take their time, putting forth their best work by only writing when they feel compelled to do so. With up to 100 authors (that is the max it will have) there will always be someone writing something to keep it fresh and alive. 'All Wordy And Junk' is the home for some bloggers who aren't that great at keeping up a blog on their own. We figured we'd band together and rely on everyone else to keep the content flowing when we had writer's block. Other than that, there is no theme here. Posts and topics will be random, because that's the way we like it. I have had conversations and discussions with lot of the authors of this blog on Friendfeed and they are an interesting bunch with a lot to share. I have a feeling this may become one of my favorite blogs to read. http://allwordyandjunk.blogspot.com |

Live as if Today was a Quantum Superposition of the the Rest of your LifeYou know those movies or lecturers who tell you to "live every day as if it was your last" ? Rubbish. It seems to me that living every day as if it was your last is a great way to have a couple of weeks of fun and then wake up to find yourself in debtor's prison for decades, trying to figure out how to hang yourself with your belt. Of course these well meaning but fatalistically short-sighted folks do have a point at the heart of what they are saying -- one needs to live in the moment, take chances, and enjoy the wonder and delight of our daily existence. But it's also critically important for living a full life that we also take the long view, plan for the future, and find the discipline to do the things that may not be fun today but will lead to happiness down the road. So I present you now with the "Living for the Quantum Superposition of your Future Life" Theory (otherwise known as the "Probability Distribution Theory of Daily Living"). The concept is simple -- you could die tomorrow or live another hundred years. So you need to psychologically live for today, and also for every potential day between now and the end of your life, as best you can probabilistically estimate the probability distribution governing how likely you are to die on that future day. Estimating such probabilities is exceedingly difficult, and that says nothing of discounting rates and quality of life differences related to physical aging. So I would like to suggest a much simpler heuristic:
You could even try splitting each day into 50/50 blocks -- but i suggest that a per-day mode would result in less schizophrenia. You might even alternate in week-long blocks instead of days. One tip: if you have a family -- make sure your switching schedule is as synchronized as possible -- otherwise there could be some tension. Good luck! |

Digsby: How about a little respect for your users?I'm sure by now some of you have read this but... http://lifehacker.co...our-pc-to-make-money Hold everything! They are going to use my computer for "searching the web" without explicitly asking for my permission? What exactly are they indexing, and how do I know they aren't accessing something illegal with my computer? Why are they trying to hide this in the first place? In other words, besides the many many pages of crapware they make you opt-out of during the normal install, the latest update also includes a client from Plura Processing, which is enabled by default. There's no mention of it in the installer or change log - just a brief blurb in the TOS: 15. USAGE OF COMPUTER RESOURCES. This client is a distributed computing piece, which crawls the internet. According to a comment on Reddit most of the work their client is doing goes towards 80 Legs, which looks to mostly be about crawling, analyzing, and cataloging the internet. What Plura Processing and 80 Legs are doing doesn't seem too bad, but the way Digsby has once again tried to sneak things onto their users' computers is despicable. When they were in a poll on Lifehacker.com for best IM client they had no problem messaging all their users about the poll and their need for votes, but even after they were caught doing this they have not added a message to their change log or installer, and I doubt they've sent out a message to the users who haven't already uninstalled their crap. Personally, I'm hoping that Plura Processing views the mention in the TOS as insufficient and refuses payment to Digsby. The way I read their website Plura® requires that all affiliates fully disclose and obtain permission for the utilization of such resources. This is important as we want such utilization to be completely transparent and voluntary.makes it sound like they'd be perfectly within their rights to do so, since Digsby implemented it as an opt-out instead of opt-in. |
