I honestly cannot say how I first heard of the donation coder website as it will be 10 years ago that I made my first donation to the site and I have no idea when I first visited the site.As far why I decided to donate, I use your ScreenShot Captor program almost daily through the week and I enjoy the web site and other software as well. Thanks for the great software!K.W.

Poisson Rouge (Red Fish) {kids and adults}: Mini-ReviewPoisson Rouge (French for Red Fish) is a beautifully done Flash website that is primarily directed at children, though everyone can enjoy it. I have used this website with literally hundreds of children and every single one of them has enjoyed it. This is a wonderful example of what can be done with the Flash medium.
When you first get to the website, it will look like a bedroom with some toys on a shelf, a few items on the floor, a cradle, and a leaf shaped window. To explore the site, you simply click on the different parts of the screen. An easy way to get kids started is to tell them that the mouse pointer will change to a hand with its index finger extended when they are pointing at something that they can click on. Clicking on any of the areas on the main interface will bring you to a new part of the website. |

Thoughts on why Digg failedAs I write, the top story on Digg is "Transparency in Social News", a newspaper-as-blog item that the Digg community have used as a little self-congratulatory pat on the back. I understand why Digg's users feel like they deserve to toast themselves now and then -- after all, they've made the place one of the Web's Top 100 sites, and they've made Digg, Inc. upwards of $200 million. http://www.kuro5hin....2007/2/14/131127/709

Yehuda: Winning is Incompatible with (Almost) EverythingThis is an interesting article about the meaning and implications of winning (in games and other stuff). To summarize some of my earlier thoughts, most games have scores which indicate relative success to other players, as well as relative success to our own previous scores. Yet, at the end of most games, we discard these scores and simply assign a "1" (for win) or a "0" (for loss) to all participants. http://jergames.blog...ble-with-almost.html |

FileHamster - auto incremental file monitor/backup as you work - and free!saw this over on 'shell extension city' this morning: FileHamster - just the right tool to let you save different versions of files you are working on. so i know it would be great for 'digital artists' but i assume it will also be very useful for coders. FileHamster provides real-time backup and archiving of your files while you work. It enables you to monitor specific files on your hard drive and automatically create incremental backups whenever those files are modified. It also enables you to store notes about the changes that have been made, allowing you to quickly locate a specific revision or provide a detailed account of the work you've done on a project. http://www.mogware.com/FileHamster/ |
