Ghacks.net is a technology blog that started in 2005, around the same time that DonationCoder got started. Although it covers a diverse set of technology topics, it has been one of the reliably excellent blogs for discovering and keeping up to date on Microsoft Windows applications.

PutAside: declutter and cycle through windowsMake sure you update to the latest version of DcUpdater if you have it installed. It includes fixes nessecary for PutAside to update.
Sometimes you'll want to put aside what you are working on to complete an important task. But the taskbar is such a mess! So I created PutAside. Run the program and press Shift-ScrollLock and all open windows are hidden, you can then work on your tempory task. Cycle through the hidden windows with ScrollLock. Press Shift-ScrollLock again and all hidden windows are restored. You can exclude windows. PutAside is a combination between alt-tab, Show Desktop, a boss-key, and virtual desktops. I've always found virtual desktops to be too complex: I can never remember what is on the other desktops. I never used bosskeys, and with show desktop/alt-tab the taskbar is so cluttered. PutAside is then a middle way to temporarily hide windows without making them inaccessible. |

Total Commander 7.50 public beta 1 - mini-reviewAfter more than eighteen weeks of private beta testing and eight months since previous version, Total Commander 7.50 public beta 1 is finally available.

In this mini-review I will try to focus on the biggest changes only because I want to avoid copy&paste of help file. Gothic's New Blog on Server Administration and a cool console-y wordpress themeEveryone here knows John S. (aka Gothi[c]) who does such an amazing job admistering the donationcoder servers (both the main server and the newly upgraded member server). Well he's finally been convinced to start a blog (sorry! i meant "web log") talking about server administration issues. It's pretty hairy stuff but makes for great reading. Since he's a bit reluctant to toot his own horn I'm here to let you all know about it. Of course those of us who know John know that he's never content to just use something as he finds it. Naturally then he decided to create a unique wordpress theme that bears an uncanny resemblance to an old fashioned green text terminal. It's a very cool effect, and one of the more unique Wordpress themes i've seen. And of course knowing John you already know that he made the theme available for download under the GPL on the blog, so you can go get it there. http://ramblings.linkerror.com/ |
