FileMenu Tools: Customize Windows Explorer's Context Menu - Freeware

Screenshot - 12_23_2006 , 6_16_54 AM_thumb.png
I don't know about your's, but I can tell you my context menus could definitely use some tweaking.  Freeware.

FileMenu Tools lets customize the context menu of the Windows Explorer. It lets configure the following aspects:

    * Add some build-in utilities in order to do operations over files and folders.
    * Add customized commands which let run external applications, copy/move to a specific
       folder or delete specific file types.
    * Configure the "Send to..." submenu.
    * Enable/disable the commands which are added by other applications to the context menu.

Appnews.net - A new collaboration between some of our favorite software bloggers

Screenshot - 4_30_2009 , 4_32_22 PM_thumb.png
An interesting new site has been launched by the people behind ghacks and freewaregenius (and Rarst which I did not know about before).

It's called Appnews.net and it seems to be some combination of software update listing site, with extra links to blog writeups of the updated software, and quick download/twitter/email links.

So in other words, when certain programs are updated, they get listed at the top of Appnews, along with links to relative blog entries on ghacks, freewaregenius, rarst, or other sites(?).  I think that's the basic idea.

The display theme leaves a bit to be desired if you ask me (i like a little color in my news), but they are just getting started.  Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Rubber Ducky - a small, fun resource monitor

1duck.gif
This was a recent find over at xtort.net

MimarSinan Rubber Ducky System Monitor is a small system performance monitor that reports on your RAM and swapfile use, network traffic, plus hard drive and CPU activity levels. No big deal since dozens of other programs do that already. But what makes Rubber Ducky unique is the display. It uses a small "aquarium" complete with little rubber duck that sits above your system tray. Each element in the aquarium means something.

System Information at a Glance

    * small aquarium sits above the system tray
    * elements of the aquarium represent system information
    * see what is slowing down your system at a single look

Available Performance Monitors

    * water level: RAM usage
    * water color: SWAP file usage
    * bubbles: CPU usage
    * fish: NETWORK traffic
    * plants: DISK activity

Cute and unobtrusive. If you're tired of squinting at tiny numbers and graphs, but still want something to help you keep a rough eye on what your system is up to, give Rubber Ducky a try.
