May we recommend..
No site does as good a job of helping you choose a freeware tool for a specific task than Gizmo's Freeware (otherwise known by us old-timers as Tech Support Alert).
The site is simply unrivaled in terms of recommendations for freeware, and if you ever find yourself asking what the best free windows utility is for a given task, it's *the* site to visit.
In each well-organized category, top alternatives are reviewed, rated, and ranked, and then discussed by all -- and reviews are frequently revisited and updated, which is a rarity.
In addition, Gizmo Richards himself has also long been a friend to freeware authors, helping to shine the light on new freeware tools, and a friend to us from the early days, helping to tell people about DonationCoder and our software -- and I am extremely honored to have had some of my tools recommended on the site.
I can't think of a better site to receive the first entry in our list of our Favorite Websites.

NoDelay - automate and customize web pages ( multiple web browser compatible )DC Member chr15 writes about his new browser script: NoDelay v1.4.20100414.1 http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6499 NoDelay automates the navigation to the download links on many upload sites by automating the non user processes, and only alerts the user when an actual user intervention is required to complete a task. NoDelay also allows you to customize any part of a web site page, to add/remove/alter elements and in turn change the web site behaviour, via a small library of scripting commands in Javascript. For example, removing the Ads and logos, remove the AdBlock checks if you use it, automate web actions, etc. If you wish to check whether you have the latest version of NoDelay installed, then you could type either of the URI below in the address bar of your web browser, and this test will be performed. * check.nodelay * http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6499 If you would like additional links to be included, or wish to report any issues, please leave a comment and I will endevour to fulfil your request. I would also be interested in the scripts you make for yourself as well, again please leave a comment. The script should work in: * Firefox (install Greasemonkey first) * Google Chrome (no plug-in required) * Opera (no plug-in required) * Safari (install GreaseKit first) * Internet Explorer (install IE7Pro, download the script, change the extension to .ieuser.js, copy the file to c:\program files\iepro\userscript and enable the script in IE7Pro's settings dialog) Note: You may need to enable Javascript for the web sites if you are using a different web browser than Firefox. Approx 200 sites are listed, also you can your own. |

DuckDuckGo - new search engineI recently happened upon a new search engine, DuckDuckGo.
It's not Google, but it does have some unique characteristics to recommend it. From their About page: I'm finding the zero-click information very useful for "what the heck is this" kinds of searches. And the disambiguation and category pages are nice as well. And their privacy policy is that they don't keep any of your personal history, period, which may appeal to those of you that sounded off in the "The More You Use Google, the More Google Knows about you" topic. |

NANY 2011 :: A New Concept -- Have your say!NANY (Our New Apps for the New Year Event) has always had two purposes:
It's not always easy to organize NANY in a way that makes sense for both of these purposes -- so in 2011 we are planning to try something new. In addition to the existing NANY set-up we are going to create a new category for Entrants who want to submit a more significant application, which will have a more rigorous set of guidelines for successful entries. We are calling this category First Class entries. We still strongly encourage everyone who is interested in creating something new for the New Year to participate, whether serious or fun, big or small, application or game, novice or professional programmer. But those who want some motivation and encouragement to create something really special, with wide appeal and extra promotion, are encouraged to pledge a NANY First Class entry. NANY entries that qualify as First Class entries will be featured more prominently in our wrap-ups and in our presentations to other sites as they'll have the widest appeal, ease of use and clarity of documentation. In other words, the "First Class" applications will be the applications that we feel most comfortable recommending to people who have never heard about DonationCoder.com, and which we think are ready for wide promotion to the general public. While anyone can submit a NANY entry, the "First Class" entries will also require:
It is our intention to keep the same spirit of NANY that we have always:
This new concept has been the focus of much, and at times, intense discussion. We think/hope we've struck a good balance between the original NANY spirit and the need for improvement. But NANY is all about you, the DC members: This is your opportunity to give us your feedback on the new ideas and influence its implementation... |

Crack trackerMany people here are selling their software for a living. For all you authors suffering from cracks and keygens, this tool I made will make things a bit easier. It searches for illegal downloads of your software and presents them in a list, so you can file a DMCA complaint with rapidshare and similar hosting companies, so that your illegal downloads are removed (and then more will be listed). For more information and to download the crack tracker, see here: www.zabkat.com/blog/14Mar09-crack-tracker.htm as this is work in progress I would appreciate your feedback thanks, nikos |
