URL Snooper Opinions on FileForum
What cant I say thats good about this program? I mean, it does everything its designed to do and it does it well. Very seldom does a program of this caliber cross the internet. If you are sick of having to hunt down a url to a media file, use this, it will save you loads of time.

Best Cameras 2013

Imaging Resource's Best Camera of the Year is actually the starting point for a whole series of articles.
At the bottom of that page, there's a bunch of links:

Some interesting reading (also at that link above) about about technological advances in video focusing and anti-aliasing (used to prevent moiré patterns).

A lot of the camera choices are expensive - but if you're looking for something with interchangeable lenses, their Best Value Cameras has a couple of interesting options for $300 to $500.

Why do my cookies look like that?

Cookie-Testing02TEXT.jpg
Now that I have the Most Beautiful Wife in the Universe (tm), I am not allowed in the kitchen, and the dinner table thanks me for it.  However, I do admit that I have wanted to do something like this for a long time, but never had the patience or discipline.

Have you ever wondered why chocolate chip cookies can be chewy, crisp, soft, flat, thick, cakey, greasy, bland, flavorful, moist, or crumbly?
In this post I’m going to share with you how various ingredients and techniques can affect the taste, texture, and appearance of your chocolate chip cookies. This will hopefully help you understand how chocolate chip cookies work so you can make the PERFECT batch every time, whatever you consider to be perfect.

...And mouser alerted me part 2!  Enjoy!
Keep reading to find out how dark nonstick baking pans, cornstarch, egg yolks, cake flour, bread flour, and shortening affect chocolate chip cookies.

Google ranking change turns table on spammers

Screenshot - 12_13_2013 , 9_21_18 PM_ver001_thumb001.png
People on this site know that i'm not a huge fan of google and the incentives they have created that favor spammers and advertisers.

But the web is buzzing with a few articles today about some recent changes that have spammers scrambling to remove spammy links that are now going to end up penalizing instead of helping them.

The search engine optimization community has spent the last two years in a panic. SEO people flood our Internet with spam links and fake Twitter bots and paid traffic, to help bad websites look more popular than they are, to deliver fake viewers to web ads.

They now spend their lives on the run, Google nipping at their heels. Their biggest project? Removing all the spam links on websites like this one—the spam links that they put there.

Newsletter for Dec 10, 2013 - Codename: Lucky Fourteen

1. Newsletter Editorial

Greetings and welcome to a super-sized edition of the DonationCoder.com newsletter, featuring some of the most interesting posts on the forum in the last three months, divided into fourteen bite-sized sections.

I do have a handful of topics I want to touch on briefly in this newsletter editorial.

Firstly, and most importantly, I want to encourage you to get involved in our NANY (New Apps for the New Year) 2014 event, where we encourage coders who are friends of the site to try to code and release something new.  The deadline to submit something is January 1st, and the event is open to the public, young and old, amateur or pro.  There are no winners or losers and everyone who participates gets a free coffee mug commemorating the event.  Even if you're not a coder, stop by and cheer on the participants -- many of whom are first-time coders.

Secondly, we've finally gotten around to updating our new list of our favorite websites (see section 8 below).  Hopefully you'll discover something new there and share with us your opinion about sites we should add to the list.

Thirdly, you'll see in sections 3 & 4 below that DC member Skwire and I have been in an unspoken competition to update our software applications -- resulting in a ton of updates in the last few months.  So, if you're a user of one of our applications there's a good chance it's been updated recently.

And lastly, please consider making a small donation to help with the extra costs we incur at the end of each year in sending out our NANY event mugs.

A bunch of updates to my programs

I've uploaded some updates to many of my large applications in the last week:

As always, you can find the list of what's new both in the online help pages (linked from each program homepage) or in the forum thread about the application (also linked from each program homepage).
