Turbo C and Turbo Pascal are Back - UPDATED!

mycaps Screenshot - 001 , 05_19_AM , Aug 09 2006_thumb.png
This is big news for those of us who grew up learning to program using Turbo C or Turbo Pascal (or Turbo Assembler).

Yesterday Borland announced that they are gong to release more individual-oriented versions of their top-of-the-line compilers/development tools Delphi and C++ Builder, under the old "Turbo" moniker, including free versions and highly discounted educational versions.

UPDATE: THE RELEASE DATE IS HERE - THE TURBO EDITIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!

I use C++ Builder for most of my big projects and I am a BIG fan, so I think this is kind of cool news for new coders.  Definitely worth a try if you haven't tried them yet..

Wonderful Mini Robot Wrestling Video

Wonderful mini robot wrestling video.  You can see here a real flavor of the artistic personality emerging in these robot art forms as the technology improves..  I think it won't be too many more years before we really fully transition from this stuff being dominated by engineering issues to being the playground for performance artists and we are going to be in for a wild ride..

Ninotech Free Context Menu Tools

pathcopy.gif
Carol Haynes recently reminded me of Ninotech Copy Path, a very nice shell extension to copy paths's from explorer to the clipboard in various formats, and i know KenR was looking for a file date/time modifier, which Ninotech also makes (Ninotech Date Edit), so this seemed like a good time to post about the very profession tools at Ninotech.

Houseforge OpenSource Software Recommendation of the Month

keepass-addentry.jpg
Here Is The HouseForge Recommendation for September 2006

Name:
Keepass
URL:
http://keepass.sourceforge.net/
Mini-Review:
right here on dc.com

Keepass is a password management tool to help you keep track of and organized the various passwords you use on different websites and in different programs.  It works both on Windows and Linux; there are even ports to PocketPC, Palm OS, and MacOS X. And so you don't have to rely completely on me, Donatiocoder.com member Josh has written a mini-review.

This post is the first in a new recurring feature written by one of our members, housetier, where he will recommend one free open source cross-platform tool each month, primarily from SourceForge (and hence the name of the series).

I was particularly intrigued by the surprising result of a recent experiment demonstrating the biochemical nature of the placebo effect.
