May we recommend..
No site does as good a job of helping you choose a freeware tool for a specific task than Gizmo's Freeware (otherwise known by us old-timers as Tech Support Alert).
The site is simply unrivaled in terms of recommendations for freeware, and if you ever find yourself asking what the best free windows utility is for a given task, it's *the* site to visit.
In each well-organized category, top alternatives are reviewed, rated, and ranked, and then discussed by all -- and reviews are frequently revisited and updated, which is a rarity.
In addition, Gizmo Richards himself has also long been a friend to freeware authors, helping to shine the light on new freeware tools, and a friend to us from the early days, helping to tell people about DonationCoder and our software -- and I am extremely honored to have had some of my tools recommended on the site.
I can't think of a better site to receive the first entry in our list of our Favorite Websites.
Our daily Blog
This page spotlights the most interesting posts collected from our forum every day.
Daily Rotation - from Shell Extension CityShell Extension City is one of my favorite sites, and was one of the very very first sites that ever mentioned DonationCoder.com. And many of the very first members of DonationCoder.com came here after hearing about us there. It's long been one of the best places to find out about new freeware tools. Anyway, Bob at Shell Extension City has been working on the latest revision of Daily Rotation, their tech headlines page, and it's now in Beta here: http://www.dailyrotation.com. Like Shell Extension City, the emphasis is on a super clean and clear interfect. I'm not sure what the differences are between the new beta and the v1 of Daily Rotation, which i visit.. well.. daily, but it looks like it might be more customizable and have the ability to add your own feeds. |

What do you want to do with your life?Pick 43 things.
They don't have to be big things. You can start out small. Choose from a list of things that others feel are worthwhile or come up with one of your own. The point is to do something you feel is worth doing. |

Tip of the Day: HowTo Disable AutoPlay in Windows XP (works on removable drives)Do you hate AutoPlay? I Do.
This little tip will show you how to turn it off. AutoPlay is one of those things that tries to be smart and figure out what to do when you insert a cd or removable drive. It will scan the drive (or cd) and run whatever installer is on the cd, or if its a removable usb drive it will pop up a dialog and start scanning the drive to try to guess what you might want to do with the drive. Guess what? It's my drive, I think I know what i want to do with it thank you very much. If i want a clippy artificial intelligence on my computer i'll install this. |

Do you know someone that just hates Clippy? - Fun Prank ProgramCute little freeware program that takes the Dr. Windows idea to another level. Have you ever been working in Windows and a small annoying Clippy assistant appeared? We have too, that is why we created this prank software called Clippy.Clippy is a simulated office assistant that, when ran, will hide in the background for 1 minute then popup in the lower right hand corner of the screen and say something useless. There is no right-click Hide option on our Clippy prank, you will think there is no way to get rid of it (but there is). Every minute, Clippy pops up spouting useless nonsense about your computer. Clippy looks exactly like the annoying Clippy assistant you are used to, complete with sound and a variable size hint box based on the size of the hint. That is not all! Clippy comes with a dozen or so default messages, but Clippy can be customized to fit your needs. http://www.rjlsoftwa...ntertainment/clippy/ |

SIW: Free System Information ToolToday in the IRC Channel, Ken was in need of a System Information Tool that tells him about his installed memory a.s.o. He got "Everest" that does the trick, but is no longer freeware. So i jumped in and told him about my favourite System Informationtool for Windows (SIW), that is very good one and free (Donationware). After that, Ken "forced" me to post this goodie on the forum... http://www.gtopala.com/index.html
After reading the remainder, tell us what you use and think of SIW |
