Occasionally a friend of DC without a web site will release a program and ask us to host it. We've create the Miscelaneous Member Software Archive for this purpose.
There you will find some programs by DC member seedling, including: Random MixTape Maker, which takes a large collection of your mp3 files and creates playlists with a specified target duration; WTF Music Info, which will scan your music directories and give you a nice, graphical view of your music library.
- Number of programs available: 3
- Last updated: 2008
- Visit the miscelaneous DC member archive page to browse apps and download them here: http://www.dcmembers.com/archive.
Our daily Blog
This page spotlights the most interesting posts collected from our forum every day.
Send postal mail for free with online services (EasyPost, Postful, eSnailer)Sending physical letters just isn't cool anymore, and it takes too much time to print, stick it in an envelope, and walk to the store to get a postage stamp. Companies seem to really be acknowledging that and building their businesses around it. http://www.www.downl...-time-with-esnailer/ |

REQUEST: OnScreen Display for Mute StatusToo many times I am interrupted and have to hit my mute button. Then I forget it's muted and wonder a little while later where my music went, or why I am not hearing alerts for incoming messages.
When I hit the mute button on my keyboard, there is an onscreen display, but it only lasts a second or 2. What I would like is a utility that will show when the pc's volume is muted, only while it is muted, until it is not. Whatever image or text is used, should show up well on both light & dark backgrounds. |

hibernate, damit! or a nice tool called wizmo...http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm it's a multiuse tool I just found because my 2gb laptop often doesn't obey orders and doesn't like to hiberate, even after installing M$ patches that supposedly fixed that! ( Example: wizmo hibernate. the nice thing is that you can _force_ the command: wizmo hibernate! (aka: hibernate, damit!). It does understand other commands (see website). If you have multiple monitors, this might help as well. |

Fascinating article about harm of monetary incentives: v. relevant to dc ideasThis is an article about how offering people monetary rewards can have a negative effect on things. Very relevant reading for dc ideas and stuff. Definitely food for thought. NEW YORK CITY has decided to offer cash rewards to some students based on their attendance records and exam performance. Diligent, high-achieving seventh graders will be able to earn up to $500 in a year. The plan is the brainchild of Roland G. Fryer, an economist who has been appointed as “chief equality officer” of the city’s Department of Education. http://www.nytimes.c...f=slogin&oref=slogin

Strange Robotic Cats: Our future friendsStill a bit primitive, but this is our future, no doubt about it.. Interesting look into current research and consumer products trying to create robotic pets. http://www.techeblog...otic-cats#more-10396 |
