It's safe to say that mysterious and reclusive DC member Skrommel single-handedly built the Coding Snacks section of the DonationCoder forum, where people request small custom applications. Coding in the Autohotkey scripting language, Skrommel is also one of the fastest coders we've seen -- when he is on the prowl it's not uncommon for him to finish coding a request before most of us have had time to even read it. He also typically shares his source code along with the compiled utility, which makes it possible for others to extend and customize his tools.
- Number of programs available: 80+

DonationCoder Mentioned on O'Reilly XML.comDonationCoder.com has a very good Word Processor Review by Zaine Ridling, divided into three tiers: Major Word Processors (Open Office, Office 2007, Word Perfect), Second Tier Word Processors (AbiWord, EIOffice, etc.) and Online Word Processors (Google Docs, etc.) that is well worth reading for an idea of the capabilities of each. The final Pro and Con tables are handy. http://www.oreillyne...rocessor_review.html |

Google Image labeler: google's way of indexing images' contentGoogle Image Labeler is a new feature of Google Image Search that allows you to label random images and help improve the quality of Google's image search results. Now isn't that smart? Google has transformed a tedious (and payed) job into a game for the masses. Although there are points involved, there's no prize or anything: What are these points for? Can I redeem them for anything? http://images.google.com/imagelabeler/ |

Real time video mixer software neededI am looking for a program that I could select several video sources (webcam, portion of my desktop, video clips, etc.) and I could combine those sources into one. For example, I could put my webcam as one source, and then put a video in a small window on top of that (like picture in picture on a tv), or I could fade from one source to another.
One example of this is medialooks video mixer, but I am not paying $500 for this, so I was wondering if someone could show me an alternative that is hopefully freeware, or not as expensive. I would like to be able to select this program as an input in another program (eg. use it as my webcam source in msn), or record to an avi video. |

Re: GMail Drive in My ComputerGMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Gmail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium. http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm I know it's not a big deal and many ppl (imo) are using such tools, but there's still debate on its compliance with Google Gmail Program Use Policy. Some real risks of using it (IMO): 1. Google may block the program altogether someday. 2. Google may disable your account. 3. When Google makes changes to Gmail, the program may break and trap your files inside your gmail account (at least temporarily). |
