45 best Freeware Design programs

blog clipart
Hello all seems that Snap2objects http://www.snap2obje...are-design-programs/ has a mega list of the 45 best ever freeware design programs.  I checked it out and found a lot of programs I didn't even know exisited.  The catogories include Vector draw, 3d imaging, basic image editig (like paint.net, gimp etc) some color pickers, and a few other ones.

DonationCoder Mentioned on O'Reilly XML.com

DonationCoder.com has a very good Word Processor Review by Zaine Ridling, divided into three tiers: Major Word Processors (Open Office, Office 2007, Word Perfect), Second Tier Word Processors (AbiWord, EIOffice, etc.) and Online Word Processors (Google Docs, etc.) that is well worth reading for an idea of the capabilities of each. The final Pro and Con tables are handy.

Google Image labeler: google's way of indexing images' content

logo.gif
Google Image Labeler is a new feature of Google Image Search that allows you to label random images and help improve the quality of Google's image search results.

Each user who wants to participate will be paired randomly with a partner who's currently online and also using Google Image Labeler. Over a 90-second period, both participants will be shown the same set of images and asked to label each image based on what they see. They'll also be shown words that can't be used as labels. Both participants can add as many labels as they want until one of them matches a partner's label. After there's a match, they'll see a new image and continue the cycle, until time runs out. Contributors will also see points they've earned throughout the session.

Now isn't that smart?
Google has transformed a tedious (and payed) job into a game for the masses. Although there are points involved, there's no prize or anything:
What are these points for? Can I redeem them for anything?

They're intended to help identify contributions from participants. But they're not redeemable.

Real time video mixer software needed

blog clipart
I am looking for a program that I could select several video sources (webcam, portion of my desktop, video clips, etc.) and I could combine those sources into one. For example, I could put my webcam as one source, and then put a video in a small window on top of that (like picture in picture on a tv), or I could fade from one source to another.

One example of this is medialooks video mixer, but I am not paying $500 for this, so I was wondering if someone could show me an alternative that is hopefully freeware, or not as expensive.
I would like to be able to select this program as an input in another program (eg. use it as my webcam source in msn), or record to an avi video.

Re: GMail Drive in My Computer

blog clipart
GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Gmail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.

http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm

I know it's not a big deal and many ppl (imo) are using such tools, but there's still debate on its compliance with Google Gmail Program Use Policy.

Some real risks of using it (IMO):
1. Google may block the program altogether someday.
2. Google may disable your account.
3. When Google makes changes to Gmail, the program may break and trap your files inside your gmail account (at least temporarily).
