Kill: An effective little applicationLinux fans will instantly recognize Kill as a clone of the handy xkill utility, because both of them let you instantly kill off a process by clicking on one of its windows. Kill is an effective little application written in AutoHotKey.

Mosaizer and Textaizer - Cool Freeware Graphics Effects with Mosaics and TextMosaizer is one of those programs you can use to take one picture and make a super high-res version of it where the individual pixels are made up of actual tiny photos. It's got tons of options for how to build the pictures and it's one of the best free tools to do this. Also by the same author is Textaizer which basically does the same thing except it uses colored and warped text to produce the image, for some wonderful results. Both programs are free -- donations to the author are encouraged (see the donate link on his page). http://www.mosaizer.com

Graphics Tablets - opinions (nudone, hamradio, tomos etc. care to chime in?)I'd really like to buy a graphics tablet but wanted some feedback before taking the plunge.
My choices are the full range of Wacom tablets (drool) and what appears to be a relatively new kid on the block - Genius. The price differential is significant, though the new Bamboo line from Wacom is comparable in price to the Genius offering but offers half the touch sensitivity. I suspect, though, that reading specs off a box isn't going to be a reliable way of choosing a tablet. I intend to use it for touching up digital photos, noodling around with ArtRage, and working on graphics for my PhD (archaeological site plans in particular). So... what I am looking for are opinions about the relative merits of the different Wacom tablets and how Genius compares (assuming anyone has put on through its paces). |

Anti-Christ Hunter SoftwareHello All, I've redone a little utility I posted here a while back and incorporated some good feedback from nudone. Now, it's just for fun, but never-the-less, I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas on how it could be a bit more fun. Anyways, let me know what you think of the new and improved Anti-Christ Hunter v6.6.6. (The version number will be stuck at v6.6.6 eternally for every release.) The web design there is entirely thanks to nudone! Anyways, before I formally release it, I'd just like to see if anyone has any feedback. |

Patch for new Critical Windows Flaw (MS07-061)As queasy as I get whenever I run Windows Update nowadays, I think I'll do so for this one: A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that the Windows shell handles specially crafted URIs that are passed to it. If the Windows shell did not sufficiently validate these URIs, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability and execute arbitrary code. Microsoft has only identified ways to exploit this vulnerability on systems using Internet Explorer 7. However, the vulnerability exists in a Windows file, Shell32.dll, which is included in all supported editions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. My understanding is that this flaw has already been exploited in the wild, and has nasty consequences. Theoretically an evildoer could execute *anything* on a compromised Windows workstation. Windows NT, 2000, and Vista users: you're safe. |

40+ Free Professional Fonts from Smashing MagazineSmashing presents a critique of over 40 free fonts, all professional quality. Examples abound, so it's incredibly easy to spot the ones that really kern your descenders. They even have some nifty monospaced fonts I haven't seen before. Windows, Mac, and (sometimes) Linux formats are available, but since the article is a collection of links to the actual font makers, each has their own offerings. |

Free (video) Course: Computer Programming I (using C)University of Washington CSE 142 - Computer Programming I
This is a complete basic introductory course (using C) for beginners that have no previous programming experience, that was offered at the University of Washington during the fall of 2000 (taught by Martin Dickey). If you have never studied programming, this course was designed for you. Access to slides, homework assignments & solutions, exams & solutions (everything except the lectures and quizzes): http://www.online.cs...shington.edu/cse142/ Here are the lecture videos. It may seem as if I have listed them out of order, but they are actually in the proper order in which they should be viewed. Whoever uploaded them numbered them wrong. The entire set of videos is Closed Captioned. Lecture 1: Overview and Welcome: http://video.google....-1715462554446360061 |
