New Apps for the New Year 2009New Apps for the New Year (NANY) is the motto of the Nany Challenge over at Donation Coder. It's already the second year of the challenge and lots of new software programs have been released during that challenge. To be precise: 35 new and free software programs have been released which more than doubled the count of last year. Each application can be downloaded right away from the Donation Coder website and works without registration or other inconveniences.. Comparer is a file comparison tool that can compare (among other things) all file properties. File Replicator is another interesting program. It can search for a certain file in a selected folder and replace that file with another one. Think of updating files that reside in multiple locations on the computer's hard drive.. I do not want to spoil the fun of exploring all those new programs.. It is definitely worth a visit; And who knows, maybe you find the program there that you have been searching for all of your life.

recording phone conversations from a PC (skype, voip). What I have triedThis is the current landscape to Record Skype/voIP Conversations.
They all ask you to pay $20-$30 and most of them didn't even work on my system. Most offer lots of other features that I don’t need, like sharing music, answering machines, or the superpower of making funny noises to your otherwise perfectly normal conversation. Any ideas? what works for you? (also see http://www.labnol.bl...e-conversations.html where I got most of the links) |

Microsoft Songsmith - Cheesey Advert but Cool ToolPoor microsoft can't get a break.. Their new free home software toy "SongSmith" is being ridiculed on the web because of a very cheesy advertisement. I don't know the research behind it, and I know this isn't the first such program to do this kind of thing, but it does look like they put a lot of effort into making it easy to use, and i can certainly see this being extremely useful for very low budget amateur song tinkerers. It seems like it would be especially useful to people making novelty/satire songs for videos on the web. Very cool. And for kids.. come on this has to be great fun for them. Admins, start your engines... If you're an incumbent cable operator who has had the TV market to yourself for several years only to be challenged by an upstart that offers a better service, you've got two options: ratchet up your own offerings or sue the upstart. Faced with an incursion by Verizon's FiOS TV and Internet service into some of its territories, Charter is apparently going with door number two, filing a patent infringement lawsuit against Verizon on the last day of 2008. 10. Kiwis Rally Opposition to NZ Copyright Bill Spoiler http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20090106-kiwis-rally-opposition-to-nz-copyright-bill.html It appears New Zealand is following Australia's lead in tyranny of the internet, proposing a new law that would see "suspected copyright infringers" cut off from the internet. Borrowing the "Not in My Name" slogan popularized by anti-war and pro-Palestinian activists, New Zealand's newborn Creative Freedom Foundation is leading a petition drive to block implementation of copyright legislation slated to take effect at the end of February. Critics charge that Section 92 of the Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment Act, enacted this past April, requires ISPs to act on a principle of "guilt upon accusation," cutting off the Internet connections of users merely alleged to be violating copyright. 11. The Altruist - An Artist and a Yearbook - Touching VideoIn "The Altruist," artist Laurie Munn documents her adventure in found portraiture: working from a 1965 yearbook from Emerson High in Union City, New Jersey that she found in the trash, Munn painted portraits of all 220 members of the class of 65. Then she returned to the Emerson High and tracked down the subjects of her portraits to show them the great work -- discovering the heartbreaking story of the original yearbook on the way. http://lauriemunn.com/video/index.htm
