You won't find a more full-featured screen capture program for less
There are many professional tools that streamline this process, but their cost seems hard to justify for taking the occasional screen grab. Fortunately, there is Screenshot Captor, which is full of features and is free. In addition to warm fuzzies, donations garner small perks at the site and guaranteed free access to future software, should it become commercial. Neat idea.. After you use SC a while, you'll probably want to make a donation; it's that good.

Flash Game of the Week: StarCom

Screenshot - 6_12_2009 , 1_22_02 AM_thumb.png
Reviewed today on JayIsGames.com, StarCom is a top down space game with a storyline and missions.

It's very well done and is very similar to one of my all time favorite games, EV Nova.

I've been trying to encourage people on DC to make a top down 2d space game like this for a while.. because i think the mechanics and engine is within the capabilities of a small team, and because i think it has such great potential for incorporating compelling adventure/exploration/storylines.

Zero Zipper: Recreate files but without content to target drive

blog clipart
Is there a way to recreate file/folder structure from source to target but without any content? better yet, is it possible to zip it up?

I think this will be better understood with an example.

Say if i have a source drive D: with the following

D:\test.txt (size 100 MB)
D:\a\b.ini (size 1 MB)
D:\z\y\x\c.pdf (size 1 GB)

After the zip/copy operation i want this on the target E: drive (can be another computer)

E:\test.txt (size 0 bytes)
E:\a\b.ini (size 0 bytes)
E:\z\y\x\c.pdf (size 0 bytes)

...

This is useful in recreating directory and file structures on which you can run various tests for finding files ...etc. and it would be easy to transfer over the internet without the size implications.  I have to do this for about 50000+ files

ScreenCastle: One-click screencasting right from your browser

SNAG-00432.png
ScreenCastle is a free service that allows you to record screencasts directly from your browser. Just click the big red button and start recording. When you are finished, they give you a number of URL's and codes to embed the video or thumbnails into your website, blog & forum posts, links for email, etc.

Yes, that's right, they even host it for you, for free. All you need to get started is a Java enabled browser and something you want to make a screencast of.

And for developers, there is an API.

Bullion and Bandits: The Improbable Rise and Fall of E-Gold

dougjackson07.jpg
An interesting article about E-Gold, a payment and internet-bank-like web service..

MELBOURNE, Florida — In a sparsely decorated office suite two floors above a neighborhood of strip malls and car dealerships, former oncologist Douglas Jackson is struggling to resuscitate a dying dream.

Jackson, 51, is the maverick founder of E-Gold, the first-of-its-kind digital currency that was once used by millions of people in more than a hundred countries. Today the currency is barely alive.

Lovely Charts: Free Online Diagramming Software

SNAG-00431.png
Diagrams are great, because they are a very simple and extremely efficient way to intelligibly represent even the most complex ideas.
But drawing diagrams can also be very complicated, simply because most diagramming software require you to draw.
Lovely Charts' motto is "You think, we draw!"

Diagrams are made to communicate. Every single symbol available in Lovely Charts has been crafted with love, to enable you to create great looking diagrams that will impress, convince and seduce - even if you don't have the slightest design skill.

With Lovely Charts' extremely simple and intuitive drag'n drop drawing mechanism, you'll be able to focus on what really matters. You won't have to draw boxes or arrows, and you won't have to worry about what symbol to use.
