AxCrypt2Go Alpha Preview (open source file encryption)

Screenshot - 3_15_2007 , 7_34_13 AM_thumb.png
While reading this thread on DC forum about file encryption, I came across this blog entry from last week by the author of the well-know open source encryption tool AxCrypt.

It seems that he has just released an alpha preview version of a complete rewrite of his encryption software (AxCrypt2Go):

http://www.axantum.c...Crypt/Blog/Blog.html (see also http://www.axantum.c...t/Architecture2.html)

News 2006-02-26! There is now an alpha-version, or community preview, of AxCrypt2Go available. This is the next generation of AxCrypt - completely rewritten, faster and it runs without installation, from a USB-driver or any other media. Download  (Win 2K/XP only!) now, and give us your feedback!
..
..the following are now the primary design goals of AxCrypt 2.x:
    * Security within the bounds of a user mode program.
    * Ease of use.
    * Install-free AxCrypt2Go version as well as the traditional AxCrypt shell extension.
    * Full cross platform portability for non-interactive and command line components.
    * More robust and less complex installer.
    * International user interface support.
    * Compatibility with AxCrypt 1.x
    * 256-bit encryption.
    * Open Source.

Looking for 'Open With...' Editor

2007-03-14_184922.jpg
For five years I was using BAxBEx OpenExpert to alter the "Open with..." options in Explorer right-click Context Menu. But BAxBEx stopped developping a long time ago, and OpenExpert really isn't that user-friendly. You cannot add a program to several extensions in one go, but will have to add it to all or to each file format at a time, making it a very tiresome procedure.

Do you know of a clever user-friendly editor of the "Open with..." option?

Choosing between Vista x86 32 bit or x64 64 bit

Screenshot - 3_14_2007 , 10_45_47 AM_thumb.png
While this won't be an issue for me, I'm sure many of our readers might have the hardware that will make it an issue for them.

One of the more common questions I hear about Vista is which bit version of Windows Vista should one get.  Do we go with x86 32 bit edition or x64 64 bit edition?  I'm going to try to clear that question up as best as I can and explain the pros and cons of each choice.
First we must understand a little background on what x64 is.  X64 is the 64 bit extension technology that AMD invented (AMD64) to seamlessly migrate the 32 bit x86 (as in 286, 386, 486 compatible microprocessors) world into a 64 bit era.  Intel in partnership with HP had refused to extend the ancient x86 platform and had already committed to its all new pure 64 bit IA-64 Itanium architecture...
