MS Agent Text-to-Speech Support

Top  Previous  Next

Mirc provides built-in support for the MS Agent text-to-speech facility.  Unfortunately, the normal MS Agent features that are built-in to mIRC are incompatible with mircryption, and enabling MS Agent using the default mirc options (Alt-O -> Sounds -> Agents) will result in your parrot reading garlbed text before it is decrypted.  Which stops being amusing after about 4 seconds.

Mircryption offers a replacement mechanism for interfacing with MS Agent, which can be configured to speek only in certain channels or when certain nicks speak and to use different agents for different channels or nicks.

Advantages (and Disadvantages) to using the Mircryption MS Agent functions instead of built-in mIRC functions

easier to turn of an on all speech through right-click menu (but harder to enable/disable individual channel speaking - must do by adding variables).
can use different characters for different channels or nicks.
can set agents to minimize or unload after each sentence.
when turning of speech, agents are automatically unloaded.
you can configure micryption to use a different agent for each of your friends and then line them up on the screen to produce your own david mamet play.

The main Mircryption MS Agent features are configured from the Alt-R -> Variables tab, but Mircryption also uses the mIRC MS Agent setttings found in Alt-O->Sounds->Agent->Speech.  From there you can regulate speech speed, etc.

Before you try to get Mircryption support for MS Agent to work, make sure you have MS Agent installed and that the built-in mirc functions work.

Quick Start:

First you need to turn off the normal mirc built-in mIRC MS Agent support if you already have it engaged.  If you aren't currently using mirc with speefch functions, you can skip this step.  Go to Alt-O -> Sounds -> Agent -> and uncheck boxes for Channels, Private, Other.  If you have set specific settings for individual channels using the agent->on option in channel icon menus, return those to default setting.
To enable mircryption speech, right-click in any channel text window and select "MS Agent Speech Toggle".  The status window should inform you that mircryption speech is enanbled.
To set more advanced speech options you will need to modify the Alt-R->Variables below.

Note: from the mirc alt-O->Sounds->Agents->Speech dialog there is a mirc option to ignore non-text lines.  For some reason with mircryption this seems to kill all text with punctuation, so it should be disabled.
