Making or Using Your Own Books

The books used in PopUp Wisdom are basically just plain text files, with each item (quote) on it's own line, so it's easy to make your own books:

 

•Make your own plain text file with a .txt extension and put it in the Books directory.

 

•If the PopUp Wisdom program is already running when you add or modify a book, right click on the book list and select "Rescan Books" to make sure the program finds your latest changes.

 

•Each entry (quote) should be on it's own line.  Don't put linebreaks within a single quotation - if you want to have a linebreak use \n instead.

 

•If you make a good book of your own quotes or collection of existing quotes, let us know about it at the donationcoder.com forum for PopUp Wisdom and we'll add it to the downloads page so others can use it!

 

 

 

If you want to get fancy, the first line of a Book file can provide some extra information about the book and it's author (that's you!).  The format for this first line is:

 

PopUpWisdom|TITLE OF YOUR BOOK HERE|LONG EXTRA INFO INCLUDING AUTHOR INFORMATION HERE|SHORT TITLE OF HOMEPAGE HERE|FULL HTTP:// URL OF HOMEPAGE HERE

 

Make sure the first part is exactly PopUpWisdom| because that's how the program knows that the first line of the file is special.  If you get confused just check out some of the sample books in the Books directory for examples.
